SHERIDAN — A pair of bridges in the town of Sheridan are one step closer to being repaired.

At the latest meeting of the Town Board, the town approved bids to replace culverts on Chapin Road and on West Sheridan Road. The culvert on West Sheridan Road, just east of Strawser Road, began to collapse in late July after several of the beams supporting the bridge failed. Both roads are currently closed until the culverts can be repaired.

Also of note from the recent meeting, the town is making progress on fixing up its Community Center, as the Town Board discussed its next steps. The town recently fixed issues with the roof of the Community Center building, but the work did not stop at a new roof. The town is working to address mold remediation, as well as removing the carpeting from the walls on the interior of the building.

Also at the recent Town Board meeting, Nicole Welka was hired by the town as its new Dog Control Officer. Welka replaces Karlie Standfield, whose employment was terminated at the recent meeting.

The next meeting of the Sheridan Town Board is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Sheridan Town Hall.
